Obituary

Ardmore - Graveside Services for Mr. Freddie Ray Roberts, 62 of Lone Grove are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Jack Eldred officiating. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

Freddie was born July 14, 1958 in Ardmore, OK to the late Mr. Maxie Woodrow Roberts and Mrs. Edith Wanita (Gothard) Roberts. He departed from this life on Saturday, January 16, 2021 in Ardmore.

Freddie was raised in Ardmore attending school at Springdale and Dickson. He owned and operated his own mechanic shop before working for Ricky Carroll as a diesel mechanic for about 10 years. Freddie also drove a truck for some time. He enjoyed his grandchildren, lottery tickets and scratch offs. Freddie had a nickname for everyone and was a kind of man that would give his shirt off his back if you needed it. One thing you would see of Freddie is always having candy in his pocket.

Preceding him in death is his father, Maxie; and a great granddaughter, Daisy.

Freddie is survived by his sons, Shaine Roberts and wife Desirea of Choctaw and Michael Roberts and wife Summer of New Castle; daughter, Anglea Roberts of Oklahoma City; mother, Edith Roberts of Lone Grove; sisters, Maxine "Jaxie" Tremble of Lone Grove, Galene Southerland and husband Ron of Ardmore and Renae Galispie and husband David of Ardmore; brothers, Ronald Roberts and wife Freida of Lone Grove and Jody Roberts and wife Sandee of Ardmore; 13 grandchildren, Brandon, Calieb and wife Anna, Krystal, Cindy, Colton, Alissa, Shaine, Jerica, Brian, Caden, Addyson, Braxton, and Clayton; 9 great grandchildren, Nova, Tyson, Violet, Rose, Anabel, Carlos, Issac, Prince, Jayden and one on the way; and by a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Simmons, Calieb Roberts, Shaine Thompson, Brian Roberts, Colton Powell and Caden Powell.

Memories and photos may be shared online at www.alexanderfuneralhome.org.

In 1994 my company was constructing all the exterior stabilization, concrete, asphalt and related work at the Will Rogers Federal Prisoner Transfer Center in Oklahoma City. The ground was extremely hard and caused my equipment to break down almost daily. One late evening I pulled into a station to get fuel in my vehicle and noticed a service truck sitting at the outside pump. It was decked out with a crane, air compressor, welder, ect.
Thinking I could use additional help keeping the equipment running, I struck up a conversation with the driver to see if he might be available. He had two teenagers 15 and 16 years old.
That meeting struck up a business relationship which lasted for 10 to 15 years and a personal friendship which will endure forever.
Freddie and his two sons, Shane and Michael, were involved in each of my undertakings for several years to come and I have always considered them to be a part of my extended family. He and I knew each other well enough to know each others strengths and weaknesses and got along well anyway.
I have several anecdotes which come to mind when I think of Freddy which are exemplary of who he was.
Not to long after we got together, We were doing a major dirt job on construction of the Lowe's store at 240 & Santa Fe when my track hoe had a major breakdown which would normally have required a week or more to fix. Freddie immediately started pulling the engine that evening and by close of business the next day had us running again. This was somewhat of a remarkable feat. He understood the importance of it and he did it. Conversely, when I lined out a list of maintenance or repair projects which I felt was important on equipment which was setting in the yard with no immediate foreseen use, he would slow play it until it was needed and then work night and day to get it ready. That was Freddie.
He always wanted projects waiting for him. He would come up with an idea of something he wanted to build and he would work on it sporadically when he had extra time. I don't think the final product was as important to him as the enjoyment of figuring out how to build it.
His real legacy, in my opinion, are is children. With help from his family, he managed to raise some very good kids of whom I am very proud as well. I know their individual successes have been a great comfort to him.
Freddie wasn't much with words to express himself. However, his actions did his talking for him. He was generous to a fault and would go out of his way to help someone. I considered him to be a good friend and will miss him dearly.
