Very soon after Phil began working at Allstate (he was our first full-time employee), we sent him to trench a large house in preparation for a termite treatment. He came back to the office sooner than expected, reporting that he had seen four snakeskins along the foundation wall, plus a live snake. He said, "I'm not going back under that house . . . . . alone." When we went back under the house, there were three of us (Larry, Phil and me). We had had a sheet metal fabricator make us some snake shields that we carried along with us. I've always been glad that Phil finished that sentence with "alone"! In those early days, we used two-way radio telephones to communicate in the field - I'll always remember Phil as "Stinger". He was a good and faithful man I am privileged to have known.

Love you Phil. Many, many, many good times together. From go kart riding in our teens, to fishing trips, to working on cars together (and always having to go to the auto parts store three times each job), to being there when I shot my first deer, and so many more. Yes, you were my brother in law but mostly importantly you were my friend. I know we wound up many miles and hours apart and kind of lost contact but there hasn’t been a single week gone by all those years that a smell, a song, a feeling in the air, or something would cause me to think about you.

Farewell my friend, rest in Jesus’s presence, enjoy the beauties of where you are now, and I will see you again soon.
