Ratliff City – Mrs. Dorris Lanett (Scott) Edwards, age 91, departed this life at her residence in Ratliff City on March 23, 2020. Private graveside services will be held Thursday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood with Reverend Doug Hickman officiating. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Ratliff City.

Mrs. Edwards was born on August 28, 1928 in Healdton, OK to the late Mr. Marshall Scott and Mrs. Nirvia (McQueen) Scott. She grew up and attended school in Healdton.
Dorris met the love of her life Mr. C.L. Charlie Edwards at church and later that night they went to a friend’s house and played “spin the bottle”. Dorris gave C.L. the kiss of his lifetime and they were married three years later on May 19, 1950 at the Baptist preacher’s house in Wynnewood during a thunderstorm with hail. In 1951 they moved to Ratliff City where they would make their home and raise their two children Mark and Marsha.

Dorris attended cosmetology school and worked as a licensed beauty operator for many years at Charmette’s Beauty Shop. She was a devout Christian and a charter member of the Ratliff City Baptist Church. Dorris enjoyed planting flowers and loved growing African Violets. She was a talented artist and has painted many oil paintings and also enjoyed quilting.

Mrs. Edwards is preceded in death by her parents; husband, C.L. Charlie Edwards; daughter, Marsha Lackey; sister, Charlotte Coats; brother, James Scott; and a niece, Lisa Weeden.

She is survived by her son, Mark and his wife Debbie of Ratliff City; son in law, Bryan Lackey of Ardmore; grandchildren; Leah Lackey of Colorado Springs, CO, Halee Lesch and husband Chris of Arvada, CO; great grandchildren, Estella and Luke Lesch; grandchildren, Jeanna Borden and husband Jay of Ardmore, Tracy Jones and husband Jeremy of Sulphur; great grandchildren, Jamy Kirkpatrick and husband Hoot of Fox, Preston and Ashlee Porterfield, Brayden Kilcrease, Parker, Mabry, and Maloree Jones; great great grandchildren, Jaycee and Jensen Kirkpatrick; Many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
