Obituary for Joseph "Joe " Sylvester Dodd

Joseph "Joe " Sylvester Dodd
Ratliff City - Graveside Services for Mr. Joseph "Joe" Sylvester Dodd, 89, of Pruitt City are scheduled for 2:30 PM Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Duncan Municipal Cemetery with Rev. Glynn Baker officiating. A commentary visitation will be held prior to the service from 12-1 pm at Alexander Funeral Home of Ratliff City.

Joe was born on July 5, 1928 at Seminole to the late Mr. Joseph Price Dodd and Mrs. Christine Melvera (Casteel) Dodd. He departed this life Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 at Oklahoma City.

Joe was raised at Seminole entering the United States Army at an early age. He served honorably from 1946 to 1952. After his discharge he returned home and followed work to this area finding work at Seals Well Service of Fox. Residing here he soon met and later married the former Ms. Lavonna Faye Seals on March 20, 1954 at Gainesville, TX. They made their home in Pruitt City where Joe continued to work all of his years as a Hot Oiler for Seals Well Service.

Joe enjoyed being involved in all the activities with his two children Rhonda and Rodney. He volunteered as a Scout Leader, helped with 4H, and especially enjoyed doing Share the Fun with his wife and children. Joe loved the outdoors fishing and camping. He even built his own camper taking it on many trips with his family. He also enjoyed country singing, especially bluegrass and seeing all the shows and attractions at Branson. He was a very talented guitarist, teaching his son Rodney to play. Rodney preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2000. Also preceding him in death was his Parents; four sisters; two brothers; and three infant siblings.

Survivors include his wife Lavonna Faye Dodd of the home; daughter, Rhonda Renee Dodd of New York, NY; grandson, Robert Joseph Dodd of Oklahoma City; numerous other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Frontier Hospice, 221 N Service Rd, Suite D
