Emmitt "Rusty" Gilcrease
Wilson -Mr. Emmitt (Rusty) Taylor Gilcrease, age 96, left this life peacefully on August 1st, 2018 at his home in Madill, OK. He was born in Orr, OK on February 26th, 1922, to the late Mr. Zacharia Taylor Gilcrease and Mrs. Carol Dona (Patty) Gilcrease. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 6th, 2018 at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Wilson with Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Interment will be at Crow Cemetery in Love County. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
Mr. Gilcrease had a long full life starting at a young age working on his Fathers 640 acre farm. He then joined the Army on April 10th, 1944 receiving the EAME Theater Campaign Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army of Occupation Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and 2 Overseas Service Bars. He also prepared documentation for the Nuremberg trials. At one time he worked at a gas station in Santa Fe for $1.00 a day and slept in the back on a cot. He co-owned drilling rigs with his brother, Felix Gilcrease and they traveled from Texas to Montana. This is where he met Miss Diane Schott and later married her on May 29th, 1953. Rusty was a self taught butcher in New Mexico and owned a grocery store in Oklahoma City. They moved to Kingston, OK where he owned 2 bait stores. Rusty and Diane owned a dress shop, bought vacuum trucks and finished out his working years in the Healdton and Wilson area.
Rusty loved planting tomatoes and had the best around. He also loved making his special chili that everyone loved when he shared it with them. He also loved fishing and camping in Pecos, New Mexico and the Rio Grande. He did this until he couldn’t get up and down the banks, which was only a couple years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Amos, Felix, Andy and an infant daughter.
Rusty is survived by his son, Charles and wife Ragenia Gilcrease of Little City; grandchildren, Trina and husband Jeff Clark of Lone Grove and Bryan and wife Ann Gilcrease of Monroe, Washington; Great-grandchildren; Jessie Gee, Taylor, Josh and Taryn Clark and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Rick, Randall, Dennis and Brent Gilcrease, Allan and Mike Tipton.
